Large Orbital Magnetic Moment and Strong Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy in Heavily Intercalated Fe<sub><i>x</i></sub>TiS<sub>2</sub>

Titanium disulfide TiS$_2$, which is a member of the layered transition-metal dichalcogenides with 1T-CdI$_2$-type crystal structure, known to exhibit wide variety magnetism through intercalating various kinds atoms different concentrations. Among them, Fe-intercalated titanium Fe$_x$TiS$_2$ be ferromagnetic strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and large coercive fields ($H_\text{c}$). In order study microscopic origin this compound, we have performed X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements on single crystals heavily intercalated ($x\sim0.5$). The grown showed PMA $H_\text{c}$ $\mu_0H_\text{c} \simeq 1.0\ \text{T}$. XAS XMCD spectra that Fe fully in valence states 2+ Ti an itinerant electronic state, indicating electron transfer from host TiS$_2$ bands. Fe$^{2+}$ ions were shown orbital moment $\simeq 0.59\ \mu_\text{B}\text{/Fe}$, which, combined spin-orbit interaction trigonal field, attribute Fe$_x$TiS$_2$.
